The present inventory is a first attempt to document the various micro-insurance schemes that have been identified so far as contributing to the extension of social protection in Pakistan.
In the very recent years, it has been observed in the country a growing perception of the necessity to extend social protection to all excluded groups and a wider commitment to actively contribute to this extension through various strategies including the promotion on new micro-insurance schemes. As a direct result, several actors of the civil society have already designed and set up some micro-insurance schemes that were tailor-made to answer the priority needs and contributory capacity of their target groups.
Several insurance companies, both private and public, are also found active in this new sub-sector having tied up with various development organizations operating at the grassroots level for provision of new insurance products to the disadvantaged groups.
